Elijah: WHO IS JESUS TO ME?
Once again at one of our Saturday night services, Elijah was asked to give us a personal reflection on 'Who is Jesus to me?' :
Pastor Andrew asked me if I could share my thoughts tonight about “who is Jesus to me” and so here I am. The first thing I thought of when hearing the question is the song by Sonseed called “Jesus is my friend”. Banger tune.
After rocking out to that song on repeat, I realised I had to actually give more of an answer than just a song, so I sat there in my room amongst my mess of small cars, bike parts, and memories, staring out my window at the beautiful garden that God and my mother and father had created (and I think Caleb also helped).
There are many different plants in this garden, and most of them host flowers. This got me thinking. In some way, we all see Jesus as a different flower plant. Each of us have slightly different ideas of who Jesus is to them at different times. Sometimes we need something or someone to look to and give us hope: the flower itself with it’s coloured petals. Sometimes we need someone to comfort us: which for some people is the smell of the flowers. Sometimes we need to know that there’s a strong backbone to everything in case we fall: the roots. And sometimes, we need someone who can help us stay calm and breath: the leaves (because photosynthesis).
So in a way, we all need a different Jesus at different times. He can be a father, a leader, a friend, a supporter, a giver, and much more, but overall, he’s God. After creating that analogy I was pretty chuffed with myself. Then I realised, there’s more. The garden with the flowers has always, is always, and will always be there: it’s just a matter of whether I’m looking toward it or not. Jesus is always there, we need to look toward him.
So, that’s who Jesus is to me.
